Information
Train kiln built by Ted Neal in 2020, modified by Mark Tyson. 3 stacks in the front half and 3 stacks in the back half on 14 x 28 shelves. We build a huge coal bed in front - ie - we fill the lower fire box, and an equally large coal bed in the side stoke area (25" long x 30" wide fed by 4 stoke ports). We get great Yohen effects across the entire bottom of kiln and great crystals across the top of the back half. 38 hour firing with soak at 2300 F for last 12 hours - we take down cone 15 in front and cone 13 to 15 in back. We burn 4 cords of select hardwoods each firing- oak, elm, cherry, black walnut, etc.
