Information
Oxford Kilns are the creation of Dr Robin Wilson, researcher in the Department of Archaeology at Oxford University, UK. Isezaki Jun, the Living National Treasure of Bizen is the Hon. Patron of the kilns, which at present consist of two anagamas, three fastfire kilns and a large pit kiln. Svend Bayer has been a senior resident firer at the site since 2022, and Claude Assuage is regularly visiting Artist-in-Residence. Doctoral students of the project regularly work with kilns in EU, Japan, Korea and Vietnam. Dr Wilson, the Director, leads firings, firing courses and lecture series on woodfiring at Oxford. Oxford Kilns are a site for firing, not a pottery studio. As such, ceramic artists and potters bring works to us to participate in firings. We work with art institutions, potteries, academic bodies, and individuals in a range of ways. Our kilns fire throughout the year. In excess of 3000 potters have learned to wood fire at Oxford since 2015. we run an ongoing programme, and the best way currently to contact us or see our work is via our Instagram page @oxfordkilns
